The student that is reading a book over there is Michiko.

 

·          She is reading a book over there [Non-polite] (Relative Clause) àあそこで ほんを よんで いる。

·          The student is Michiko [Polite] à

がくせいは みちこさんです。

·          an interesting person = a person that is interesting à

おもしろい ひと

He/she is interesting. à

おもしろい。

cf.    a person that likes cats à

Place any describing clause or adjective immediately before the described noun. Make the described noun a gap in the relative clause, i.e., not expressかれが as in おもしろいひと ‘a person that is interesting’.

a)    People who do physical exercises are healthy.

b)   I like those who do not smoke.

c)    A letter came from a friend that got married last year.
